DSR: What's going on Dub-G?
Dub-G: Mane, I'm just chilling. Doing big
thangs!
DSR: Fo shoa, Getting ready to drop your solo album?
Dub-G: Yea! I got the new album "Executive
Status" about to drop on June 17th. I got some fire on it ya know. Alot of
folks showed me love and came through for me. David Banner, Choppa, Mr. Serv-On
and Beelow got right with me. I have a lot of Mississippi pimping on it. My
dawg 17, Akus Smiff, Huggie B and a few more folks. I think its well put
together. My boy Mr. LPD chopped & screwed on of my tracks so it's going
down. I'm shooting the video to the first single "Holla At Me" soon so be on
the lookout for that to hit BET. I'm just grinding!
DSR: Tight I'm feeling that. You mentioned tha crooked letter state, is that
where you reppin?
Dub-G: No doubt! I'm from Pass Christian.
It's a small town where everybody know each other. It's on the Gulf coast by
all the casino's
DSR: Cool, so born and raised then?
Dub-G: Naw, I was born in Inglewood Cali. I
moved down here with my grandmother a long time ago. That's why my album has
a southwest sound to it.
DSR: OK, No doubt, How old were you when you decided to start rapping and
how did it happen was it just something to do or were you on a paper chase?
Dub-G: I was about 15 when it got crunk for
me. My cousin 17 had a group and invited me to join one day. We started
doing block parties and local shows and built up a fan base. We was doing it
for fun. My man B.A. from Big Talk Entertainment got at me one day and said
if you want to take it up a notch with you music come holla. We got with him
and things picked up. We recorded a demo, got radio play, shows & a good bit
of street fame. We had a few monkey wrenches thrown into the mix over there
and I left one group and got with another one that was on the label too.
After time I went solo and left the label. I started my own and it's been on
ever since. It's ironic that everybody from the Big Talk Label left and
regrouped on my label.
DSR: Ok ok, You said your new album is titled Executive Status are you the
head hauncho of Big House Music?
Dub-G: Yes I'm the CEO and President of Big
House Music, LLC. I'm also an artist and in house producer. I also have a
few more things on my plate.
DSR: Ok, on that note, It seems like alot of rapper's lately have turned to
acting after their musical success, you see anything like that happening for
you, or you strictly sticking to doing what you do?
Dub-G: Well if something comes my way I'm
going to take it if it's a cool role. All the TV does is give the artist
more promotion and face time. If I don't make it doing the music myself I'm
going to make it because I have alot to fall back on.
I do top of the line graphics for a company me and my round Breez started
called Misvision Graphics. I produce for alot of folks and yawl can check my
discography for that. I also write for a couple of magazines and online
sites. I build websites.
I got the game on lock. I do it all so if one don't come through I have
another to go to.
DSR: True, The Mississippi rap scene seems to be a bit scarce as far as
folks actually getting out there and doing there thing hard besides your
self and banner, does that make you feel more responsible for putting it
down hard for MS?
Dub-G: I mean they have a few more folks
getting out there. Kamikaze of Crooked Lettaz is getting ready to release
his new album. He's out on the road with Nappy Roots now. Boo from 1 Life 1
Love Records is doing his thang. He was a member of
C-Loc's camp and had a deal with Interscope. There are alot of folks who
hungry and rapping but only a few have the heart and desire to get out there
and make some noise. Mr .LPD & KG are out in the ATL making big noise. We
have a few artists from Mississippi that want it and are going to get it
sooner or later. As far as I go, I want to get out and rep as much as I can
for the state so these majors can come down and hear what the state has to
offer. Banner is out there so hard now that he has damn near single handedly
brought the focus to our state. We have one of the most powerful players in
the game right in Jackson. Charlie Braxton is at the helm of alot of thing
in the business for our state and the country. I just want to see us get our
just due. We've been known for putting out some of the greatest blues and
jazz artists of all time and that being our market. Well hip-hop is here now
and we want our piece of the cake. I'm going to be one of the folks to bake
that cake and eat it!.
DSR: No doubt do tha damn thang. What would you say your favorite track off
your new album is, and why?
Dub-G: My favorite track is "That's How We
Roll". It's just one of those feel good songs you can ride or party off of.
It has a west coast sound with a down south flavor to it.
DSR: Ok i can dig that. Like you said you got your solo album about to drop
June 17th but what's next for Dub-G after that you going to sit back for a
minute or keep grinding?
Dub-G: I'm a hit the road so be looking for
me in a hood near you. I'm still going to be doing the graphic thang so if
you want to see what I'm working with hit
www.MisvisionGraphics.com and
holla at ya boy! If ya want to see what I'm doing or the other Big House
Warriors doing hit up
www.ThaBigHouse.com and yall can see it all. After
this album I'm going to drop one more solo, a compilation and then chill
behind the scenes and make paper.
DSR: Ok cool, Any last words?
